Thank you to all of you for supporting the church’s missions. From November, 2015 to November, 2016, our church family provided over $17,000.00 in food, gasoline, utilities bills, clothing and other needed services to families who were in need.
The monthly mission for December is our Annual Christmas Family collection. During the month of December, you can put your donations in the offering plate marked “Christmas Families”. Your gifts go to identified families in Caldwell who may not otherwise have food for their Christmas table, heat for their homes, or Christmas presents for their children. In recent years, our church family has provided for as many as 14 families during the Christmas season.
January 5, 2017 will be our next Open Door meal service. Watch for the sign up list in the church narthex! After we have completed the meal service, we will be having lunch at Tanya’s Soup Kitchen in Wichita. All are welcome to come serve and enjoy fellowship afterwards!
John 21:15-17 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Jesus asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.” Jesus told him, “Shepherd My sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”
We have all heard this scripture many times in our Christian life. Pastor Jacob even preached on it recently. It wasn’t until recently that it spoke to me personally about what God wants us to do as the church. Feed My lambs. Shepherd My sheep. Feed My sheep. Our church does wonderful things to help those in need in our community and outside of our community. Our church family is warm hearted and compassionate, and has a desire to serve God. Such blessing is too wonderful to imagine. We have been given the opportunity to participate in God’s work. We have been allowed to be His hands and feet by feeding, clothing and providing warmth for His people. It’s time to expand our mission of feeding and clothing God’s people to include not only our monetary gifts, but our gifts of time, talent and our church building.
The Mission Committee met on Sunday, November 27th and discussed the creation of a food pantry and clothes closet within our church building. Although there is a food pantry in Caldwell, it is only open 1 day a week for two hours. We know families are hungry more than one day per week. A food pantry would require members of our church family to take turns being available to open the pantry for families who are in need of food. Additionally, we discussed providing a clothes closet that would be open the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 8a to 12p. This would allow community members to donate clean, gently used clothing and household items to the church for our church members to organize and make available to community members. Any money raised from the Saturday sales would go to help stock the food pantry, or fund our mission work. We are still in the planning stage for these projects, but we are looking to open the clothes closet portion on December 17th. Watch for more information on how you can serve in this worthwhile mission.
We are blessed to be able to watch how God is using our church! I am grateful for all the support you provide the Mission Committee. God bless you all!
